Why ride my bike across the country in December?

Hello everyone. You may be wondering if I'm crazy to think it's possible to ride across the deep South in the winter. 3,000 miles in 21 days?

Here's why I'm doing it:

Reason #1- I've never grown my beard for 3 weeks straight. The longest it ever got was on my Aconcagua expedition. Riding for that long with no razor will be quite entertaining. But no mullet for this ride. Sorry Alabama and West Texas- you'll just have to deal.

Reason #2- I'm re-testing the 1 pair of bike pair shorts theory that I tested last summer on my 1800 mile ride to North Carolina. Will the chamois last an extra 1200 miles?

Reason #3- Who needs real food when you can eat gas station food. My favorite lunch combo- a large iced coffee with 4 creams, 6 sugars. A pint of choclate milk. Orange Gatorade. Hostess Apple Pie. Greasy day old pizza. A coke. 2 Peanut Butter Cups. Microwaved Hot Pocket (1). Desert: Hot Dog.

Reason #4- 12 hours of trance techno music-a-thons for 21 days straight.

Reason #5- I have to even out the nerve damage so that I can't feel any of my fingers. It's only fair to Mr. Left Pinky.

Reason #6- I hope to save as many baby "road warrior" turtles as I can. Last trip I saved 5. This one- at least 20. Even turtles need help crossing the road. Old ladies too. Possums- you're on your own.

Reason #7- The great search for the dirtiest backwoods motel continues.

Reason #8- Ski season shouldn't start until January. Where do we live, the freaking Arcitic Circle?

Reason #9- To capture the true essence of the American South. I feel as if the only way to do this in spandex. Wouldn't you agree?

Reason #10- To see my family on Christmas Eve in Thomasville GA. What better way to get home for Christmas. I love you Swift / Gertschs!
